Walnut trees belong to the wild walnut tree family and wild walnut tree genus, and they can grow up to 20 m high. In Korea, only 2 kinds grow: walnut and wild walnut trees. It is assumed that walnut trees were imported from China and the wild walnut tree is originally from Korea. The flowers blooms in April and May, and the nuts ripen in September. The walnuts are hard and round shaped. |

A walnut consists of fat (59.4%), protein (18.6%), sugar (4.5%), lime (1.8%), fiber (1.2%), calcium, phosphorous, iron, and vitamins. It has high quality protein and fat, which helps digestion. The unsaturated fat in the nut causes no adult diseases, no matter how many nuts are taken, and it helps excrete wastes from the body. Thus walnuts are one of the most highly recommended food for the middle-aged and the elderly. Walnuts are known to be effective in curing chronic bronchitis, colds, insomnia, nervous breakdowns, and kidney problems. |
